Terminal 8 at New York’s JFK Airport is simultaneously a familiar welcome home and port to adventure for New Yorkers and travelers from around the world. It is also the first completed project in a $19 billion JFL redevelopment.
Branding for the transformed Terminal 8 was created by Applied Design. The blue-and-white color scheme was inspired by the sky and clouds seen from a plane window. It also feels clean and calming. The numeral 8 is used in patterning and motion graphics throughout the system, creating an uplifted look and a real sense of place.
Properly greeting New Yorkers and visitors is crucial, says Queens Borough president Donovan Richards. “Because of this airport, Queens is truly the front door of the United States, and JFK is the very first impression people from all over the world get of our borough, our city, our state, and our country,” he notes.
